THEIR PURPOSE

Mission

3D4E is a completely student run 3D-Printing Club at the University of Southern California. We were founded in 2010 with the purpose of making 3D printing technologies available and accessible to everyone. Since our formation, we have continued to grow and flourish with the help of many talented, driven students, as well as university and corporate sponsorship. We endorse a variety of projects that encourage student innovation using over a dozen 3D printers we now own, build, and maintain on campus. One of our most exciting projects is the USC Freehand Project, which connects students to patients with hand deformities living in Southern California. The Freehand Project Team consists of a group of USC students, who are all passionately driven towards lending a helping hand to those in our local community. As a team, we design and 3D print free plastic prosthetic hands using e-NABLE’s models. e-NABLE is an network of tinkers, engineers, artists, designers, philanthropists, medical professionals, teachers, students, and 3D print enthusiasts from around the world. The e-NABLE community has come together to collaborate, innovate, and develop a collection of 3D printed helper hand designs that are free for download and fabrication. 3D4E has partnered with e-NABLE to adjust and modify the models for our clients. The USC Freehand Project Team has been successful in printing the Raptor, Raptor Reloaded, and Cyborg Beast models. It is important to note that these devices currently require at least 30 degrees of wrist motion to work effectively. However, if any of the existing models do not sufficiently accommodate a child’s needs, we are capable of working with that family to custom design the perfect helper hand. We look forward to meeting and working with you! Please send all inquiries and requests to uscfreehand@gmail.com
